AI Predictive Fluid Dynamics: Mitigating Thermal Hotspots in High-Density Data Centers

Mastering Data Center Thermal Spikes: CFD, Telemetry, and Dynamic Airflow for Peak Efficiency

This system manages thermal issues in densely packed computer server environments. It uses real-time computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models that are connected to data from sensors on server racks, known as server-rack telemetry integration. This allows the system to detect very small, localized temperature increases, or micro-scale thermal spikes, which are common in high-density deployment thermal management scenarios. To address these spikes, the system automatically adjusts the speed of the fans in the Computer Room Air Handler (CRAH) units. It also controls motorized dampers in the floor tiles, enabling motorized floor tile damper control. By coordinating these actions, the system achieves dynamic airflow reallocation. This targeted airflow adjustment is designed to eliminate localized hot spots without causing the rest of the server room, or whitespace, to become too cold, thus whitespace over-cooling prevention. The ultimate goals are to reduce the overall energy used by the cooling infrastructure, measured as Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) minimization, and to stop servers from slowing down due to heat, known as server throttling event prevention.
